105 Pounds Removed at Wakefield, RI, Cleanup

Arnold Lumber team gearing up for the cleanup

On April 26, 2026, Ocean Recovery Community Alliance (ORCA) hosted a volunteer cleanup in Wakefield, Rhode Island, alongside alliance partners Purslane and Arnold Lumber. A total of 22 volunteers participated, removing 105 pounds of trash from the downtown area.

Event Details from the Wakefield, RI, Cleanup

This cleanup focused on the downtown Wakefield area, where trash tends to collect along sidewalks, curbs, and nearby waterways. Volunteers worked through a mix of paved streets and small green spaces, covering areas that often get overlooked. The group moved steadily through the area, filling bags with debris that had built up over time.

Partner Recognition

This cleanup was supported by Purslane and Arnold Lumber. Their involvement helped bring the group together and enabled them to cover more ground throughout downtown Wakefield.

What Was Found

Among the more unusual items collected were a broken toilet piece and several chunks of discarded tires. Volunteers also picked up a large number of nip bottles, along with smaller plastic fragments and general litter scattered throughout the area.

Why It Matters

Debris like broken tires and plastic bottles can break down into smaller pieces, contributing to microplastic pollution in nearby waterways. Removing larger items early helps prevent that spread and keeps urban areas cleaner overall.
